Building a home is probably one of the largest investments you will ever make. It is also one of the most exciting things you will ever do. It is only the talent, vision and technical ability of the designer that can achieve the proper match of plan, theme, and site to create a classic and truly timeless work of architecture, a solid investment that will continue to appreciate in value for many years to come. Perhaps you have been looking around for a while at homes in your area, and at plan books full of thousands of woefully inadequate designs, pasted with clichés and pointless caricature that would serve only to date and depreciate your investment. You probably have a large assortment of clippings, photos and plans of which you like particular elements. But you sense that there are more possibilities. At DDS Studios we have developed a precise ability to interpret our client’s program and create a custom home that is all that you imagined it could be. We believe architecture should not be limited to a series of preconceived styles, or merely give in to the regional context. It should embody entirely the client's desires, and have elements of charm, wit and romance. Good design cannot look merely to the future without respect for tradition. If no value is given to the past, then why build monuments for the future. Our experience has proven that the quality of a home is not directly relative to the construction budget. The same materials and expense wasted on an ugly, poorly designed building, when guided by good design, can produce a custom home you will be proud of for many years to come. Good design is much more
than assembling a nice floor plan and throwing on the same brick and
windows as the neighbors. True excellence can only be achieved by taking
in all elements of the project (site topography, access, views, climate,
orientation, local environment/culture, etc.) and with careful analysis
of spatial relations, circulation, furniture placement and the interaction
of light with a structure, determining how the plan can best accommodate
the client’s lifestyle, having a vision of the overall project, and
beginning with the end in mind.
